The follow-up to the massively popular toasted barrel finish bourbon – this time, Michter's has created a limited-edition rye, bottled at cask strength. This Kentucky straight rye is made by taking Michter's US*1 Single Barrel Rye at barrel strength and finishing it in a secondary barrel. These finishing barrels are made from 24 month air-dried staves. The barrels were toasted, not charred. As the rye whiskey is bottled at cask strength, the proof will vary. Nose is sweet with earthy colored sugar. Tasting youll discover a ton of oak with some caramel and butterscotch blended in. Those flavors blur rapidly into a bit of vanilla toward the end as the liquor dominates. Not very hot regardless of the verification. Great barrel quality container worth the retail cost.
